(Non-ecclesiastical) Charities of St Mary Magdalen

Our church possesses two funds, jointly known as the Non-ecclesiastical Charities of St Mary Magdalen, which is a consolidation of various ancient charities whose objects were to “provide general benefit to the poor”. Nowadays, the two funds have different remits, namely:

  • St Mary Magdalen Relief in Need Charity (No. 203247), which gives relief either generally or individually to people in conditions of need, hardship, or distress. For example, grants often fund the purchasing of household goods.

  • St Mary Magdalen Apprenticing and Educational Charity (No. 810205), which gives assistance for people aged under 25 years undertaking educational training. For example, grants often fund the purchasing of books, equipment, travelling expenses, etc. The Charity does not generally fund tuition fees, and does not fund second degrees.

Both charities are dedicated to serving the needs of individuals permanently resident in Oxford.

The charities’ foundation document is available here.

Other Local Charities

Besides our own charities, we also work with other local charities, including especially:

  • The Gatehouse, which supports the homeless and other vulnerable individuals, and whose Community Centre is based at St Giles Parish Rooms in the next parish.

  • Oxford Mutual Aid, which delivers food and other consumables to people in need.
