St Mary Magdalen’s offers 24 services of public worship every week; and endeavour to keep our doors open every day to welcome pilgrims and other visitors outside of service times. The 10.30am Sunday High Mass always includes altar servers, lay readers and intercessors, and sidespersons; we offer refreshments after Mass each week. We are very grateful to have dedicated volunteers who make all this possible. If you would like to join us in contributing your time to the life and activity of this church, we would love to hear from you.
Here are various teams and rotas that might be of interest:
Hospitality Team: The Hospitality Team serve refreshments after Mass every week, and clean up afterwards.
Church Watchers: Our Church Watchers enable us to keep the church open in the day throughout the week, and help us to welcome pilgrims and other visitors.
Readers: The first lesson at the High Mass is read by a member of the laity.
Intercessors: Prayers of intercession—for the Church and for the World—are made from the congregation.
Sidespersons: Sidespersons welcome people to the High Mass, and make newcomers in particular feel welcome.
Besides our regular rotas, we are also currently especially asking for volunteers to help with:
Gatehouse Sandwich Team: The first Friday of each month, we make sandwiches for the Oxford Gatehouse’s Community Centre and Café.
St Giles Fair: Sept 7th & 8th—if you can spare a few hours on these days, or the day before (6th) please let Nigel Speight or Deb Vorhies know, or use the form below. If you are able to bake for our pop-up café, do also let us know!
Ride & Stride: Sept 12—if you would like to join our Ride & Stride team, walking/cycling to as many Oxford churches as possible, please let Nigel Speight know. More info: https://ohct.org.uk/ride-and-stride/
