How to Get Here

St Mary Magdalen’s has sometimes—not without affection—been called the “holiest traffic island in England”, surrounded as we are amidst St Giles’ in the north, Broad St in the south, and (appropriately enough) Magdalen St and Magdalen St East on either side. If you know Oxford, the Martyrs’ Memorial is right outside. If you are familiar with what3words, you can find us at ///host.grape.lifts.

The easiest way to get here is to walk.

There are multiple bus stops on Magdalen Street itself (C1-4), right outside the church. Nearby, there are also bus stops on George St, High St, and St Giles’ St., though many of the buses that stop there also come to Magdalen St itself.

Driving St Mary Magdalen’s is not advised, due to the traffic filters in place in Oxford, which applies for most of the day (it varies, depending on location). In certain cases, a permit may be obtained, but even that may not allow you to drive up to the church.

From the north and the west, the most common route to get near to us is via St Giles’ St. There is limited street parking on St Giles’ itself, and also Gloucester Green Car Park, via Beaumont St and Gloucester St).

From the west, you may also prefer to park at Westgate and walk from there. From the south and east, the most common route is via Oxpens Rd and Park End St to Worcester Street Car Park.

But it is generally best to avoid driving.
