A Requiem Mass is a Mass offered for the repose of the soul of someone who has died. At St Mary Magdalen’s, the usual form of a funeral is a High Mass of Requiem. We also offer a requiem mass monthly, on which we remember those who have died in years past on that particular month. Every year, we also keep the Feast of All Souls (The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed; 2nd November), and all are invited to ask for prayers for the dead by name. Special requiem masses may also be requested.

At a Requiem we mourn the dead, give thanks for their lives, and commend them to the mercy and love of God. Like every Mass, it is a celebration of Christ’s death and resurrection, in which the Church proclaims the Christian hope that death does not have the last word.
